Barbershop quartet battles come to Riverside

Riverside, CA - October 17, 2016

Barbershop quartet battles come to Riverside

Barbershop, not Broadway, took over the Fox Theater on Friday.

Singing groups, including classic quartets and larger men’s choruses, came to town for the Barbershop Harmony Society’s district finals.

The two-day competition included 31 quartets and 20 choruses ranging from 16 to 100 members. About 1,200 participants, family and friends were expected to attend, society spokesman Gerald McElfresh said.

UNL students form barbershop group for college, high school students

Jadyn Johnson was born into a family in which barbershop music was the norm. Her grandfather sang barbershop and passed his affection for it along to Johnson’s mother and uncle. As she grew up, Johnson watched her family members do what they loved. She observed as her uncle and high school music teacher, Darin Drown, along with his quartet called Storm Front, won the National Harmony Society’s gold medal in 2010 in the International Quartet category. Through Drown’s experiences, Johnson saw how barbershop music could bring people together.

Historical Society’s 25th annual event features barbershop harmony

Wakulla County , FL - September 23, 2016

This fall marks the Wakulla County Historical Society’s silver anniversary and the organization will celebrate its 25th annual meeting right in the heart of Historic Crawfordville on Oct. 11, at 7 p.m., and the venue is the First Baptist Church Christian Life Center at 3086 Crawfordville Highway. In-A-Chord is a quartet originally formed in 2008 which has performed over a hundred times throughout the Big Bend, both as a stand-alone quartet and as part of its umbrella organization, The Capital Chordsmen of Tallahassee, a 44-member a capella men’s chorus, part of the International Barbershop Harmony Society.

Barbershop Quartets to compete in Lancaster

Barbershop Harmony Society's Mid-Atlantic District Contest is Sept. 16th and 17th.
Barbershop quartets and choruses from around the region will compete this weekend in Lancaster.It's part of the Barbershop Harmony Society's Mid-Atlantic District Contest. Now it its 62nd year, the event will take place at the Lancaster Convention Center.

Sweden-Based Barbershop Quartet Performs at Dos Pueblos High School

Santa Barbara, CA - September 14, 2016


When Fiona Sonni was asked if she wanted to pursue singing after high school, she smiled ear to ear and answered without hesitation. “I want to keep singing forever,” the Dos Pueblos High School junior said. “I love singing, and having the opportunity to watch a live performance is inspiring.” Sonni, along with more than 100 high school students, packed the front rows of the Dos Pueblos performing arts theater Wednesday afternoon to hear the Swedish-based barbershop quartet the Ringmasters.
