Voices of tradition

Vestavia Hills, AL - July 28, 2016


It’s Monday night, and all Ed Wharton cares about are proper vowel sounds and correct singing smiles.

“Make your face like how you are when you see your wife … or a good lunch,” Wharton tells the group of men sitting in church pews. They laugh.

Wharton is the president of Voices of the South, the Central Alabama chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society. Each Monday the group of 15 to 25 men meet to rehearse at Saint Mark United Methodist Church in the traditional barbershop style of singing, an effort to maintain the musical tradition and spend time with fellow singing enthusiasts.

Ambassadors of harmony: Local chorus is winning and inspiring

Nashville, TN - July 28, 2016


On July 8 in Nashville, the St. Louis a cappella group Ambassadors of Harmony sang “Top of the World”. After conquering 28 other choruses at the 2016 Barbershop Harmony Society International, the Ambassadors were literally on top of the world, capturing the group’s fourth international championship since 2004.

St. Charles-based Ambassadors of Harmony take gold medal in barbershop choir competition

St. Louis, MO - July 10th, 2016


The Ambassadors of Harmony, the St. Louis area's best-known barbershop choir, triumphed at the Barbershop Harmony Society's annual meeting and competition, held this year in Nashville, Tenn. The 130-man-strong amateur chorus, based in St. Charles, performed for a 15-member judging panel and 6,000 audience members on Friday night.

'Game of Tones' barbershop quartet ready to sing on international stage

Liverpool, NY - July 2, 2016


Game of Tones, a barbershop quartet made up of four graduated seniors from Liverpool High School, will travel to Nashville, Tennessee, to sing in the International Youth Barbershop Quartet Contest (YBQC). The competition will be held on July 5 and it's presented by the Harmony Foundation and Barbershop Harmony Society
